Pricey Dinner
Have you ever been caught in a situation where you went into a restaurant, sat yourself down and found that all the items in the menu were much higher priced than anticipated? If yes, what did you do?
Well, that happened to me and Gan just now. We were walking around Vivocity, Singapore and wanted to grab dinner at Food Republic. By the way, Food Republic is a really cool food court. The decor is of olden days hawker stalls.... and there are plenty of varieties there.
A very nice food court in Vivocity
As the place was swarmed with people, we decided to find other places to eat. We saw this chinese restaurant, Imperial Herbal & Sinchi Cafe with some empty tables to spare and so we went in. The place was really nice, you know...like most of the nicer chinese restaurants back home... but upon opening the menu, my eyes nearly dropped as most dishes cost around SG$40 and above each.... which converted would cost about RM90+ each. These are normal chinese dishes that we are talking about.
At that time although we felt that the place was rather pricey, we were too embarrassed to just walk out. So we had to put on our "dignified" faces and proceeded to order. Fortunately there were a few (actually very few) selections around the range of SG$15 (~RM35) per dish and we ordered 3 of those... I hope we sounded convincing enough to the waitress that we really really wanted those.
We also ordered a pot of green tea which we initially thought was SG$15 per person. Gan told me that I should drink many many cups of those for that price! Anyway after paying, we realised that it's SG$15 per pot... so not really that bad! Anyhow we already drank many many cups of those...so it would have worth it.... hahaha.
The total came up to SG$77 (~RM177) for 2 people. I guess it's not that we cannot afford such meals now and then... it's just that we were expecting to grab a simple dinner and when put into such situation, it felt really funny and embarrassing at the same time.
Oh...and 1.5 hours later, we were having curry chicken dumplings at Giant cause I got hungry!
What to do?? We are the "kiamsiapp" (stingy) people...
