When the light goes out

This morning when I was rushing to go to work, the light in my bathroom just went out. I thought it must be a power trip or something but then discovered that my water heater was still working. You see, whenever I turn on my water heater, it would give me this very loud noise as if there were many tiny workers running on hamster wheels powering it up.

So the first thing that came to my mind (and yours too, most probably!) was that the light bulb must have burned out. So I pulled it out, put it into a plastic bag and headed to work. I need it as a sample when buying new ones mah!

During lunch time, I volunteered to take my colleagues out to Giant so that I could go buy some replacement bulbs. The Giant's guard only let me in when the Customer Support stuck this "Sample" sticker on the bulb I was carrying.

Alas I found the replacements and happily I thought I would get three as spare. Took these three to the electrical testing corner to ensure that they were not defective. Passed them to this tester guy and found the new bulbs worked superbly. Then out of curiosity, I asked the guy to test the one that I have brought along. And you know what?.... the bulb was actually working! It shone so brightly as if mocking me in my face!!

Grrrrrreeat!! Now I have no idea what's wrong with my bathroom's light. If it's just the bulb or power trip, I have no problem. Now, I don't even know how and where to troubleshoot. Somemore I probably need to climb up and disassemble the whole light down.

I have a feeling it will stay like that for a little while.

Hope I don't miss any spots when bathing.

Lee Shen Jie - Ca Jien Er Guo

Pinyin lyrics for 李圣杰- 擦肩而过

我愛著誰 愛到我有點醉
wo ai zhe shei, ai dao wo you dian zhui
告訴我你是誰 能夠把我讓我變不對
gao su wo ni shi shei, neng gou ba wo rang wo bian bu dui
你不會累 但我卻愛你愛到好累
ni bu hui lei, dan wo que ai ni ai dao hao lei
從沒有為了誰 不顧安危付出一切
cong mei you wei le shei, bu gu an wei fu chu yi qie
站在這平衡點 我還是覺得有點危險
zhan zai zhe ping heng dian, wo hai shi jue de you dian wei xian
或許是看不見 只能夠靠感覺
huo xu shi kan bu jian, zhi neng gou kao gan jue

*
他不會是個好男人 也不會是個好情人
ta bu hui shi ge hao nan ren, ye bu hui shi ge hao qing ren
你對我說 我們只是擦肩而過
ni dui wo shuo, wo men zhi shi ca jian er guo
好的男人有那麼多 少了他的日子也能過
hao de nan ren you na me duo, shao le ta de ri zi ye neng guo
我不會再讓你寂寞 也不會讓你更難過
wo bu hui zai rang ni ji mo, ye bu hui rang ni geng nan guo
你聽我說 要好好學著去生活
ni ting wo shuo, yao hao hao xue zhe qu sheng huo
就算未來有多少錯 至少還有我的問候 我的溫柔陪你渡過
jiu suan wei lai you duo shao cuo, zhi shao hai you wo de wen hou, wo de wen rou pei ni du guo

你聽我說 你不要這麼做
ni ting wo shuo, ni bu yao zhe me zuo
你不要看著我 說你已經知道怎麼做

你很難受 我願意陪你一起承受

Relativity Theory

Today as we were driving out for lunch, a colleague saw a Kancil parked next to his Matrix and made a statement that he never realised how small Kancil was. He said that he saw this car parked next to smaller cars like Kenari before and it didn't look so small.

Kancil vs Matrix

That was when I tried to act smart and said, "That is what called Relativity Theory".

I was actually wrong for using that term, as "Relativity Theory" was to refer to 2 scientific theories of Albert Einstein's. You can click on the link to read more. Have to warn you though as I almost fell asleep reading it.

Anyhow I am sure you get what I meant by using the term "Relativity Theory".

In simple examples,
If you wanna look slim, always hang out with people bigger than you.
If you wanna look young, always hang out with people older than you.
If you wanna look tall, always hang out with people shorter than you.

Most of the time people don't judge you based on what you have or do not have. They judge you based on how you compare with people around you. You can be considered a high flyer in one company, but when you joined another company with many well performing colleagues, you will no longer be "special". Same person, 2 different scenarios.

I guess some people can really play on this theory to be successful or at least feel good about themselves. Perhaps that's how we should play the game?

Not feeling so big now, eh?

Postures

If you know me personally, you will know that I am not one of those people with good postures when walking, standing or sitting. Perhaps that's why I always get this neck and back pain. Hmm...maybe I should change my mattress and pillows as well... when I get my next year's bonus la.

Anyway recently I received this forwarded e-mail on correct postures when sitting and using the computer. Very very important for us desk bound people. If you have seen it before, no harm reminding yourself again, right?

A little dance

This is Axel's little "dance" before meal. Actually he spins himself like that so that he can move forward and at the same time, monitor that I am following him.

Previously for many times, bad daddy ran and hide when Axel rushed to the kitchen to wait for his food. So Axel thought of a plan to ensure that bad daddy is following him, hence the little "dance".

Doraemon shaped candy!!!

If you have not heard of Doraemon, it is a famous Japanese cartoon character. I remember growing up watching its cartoon series, dubbed in our local language of course.

Here is the opening song of the cartoon:

Suckers

Lately I have been neglecting my fish tank for a while. Haven't done any maintenance on it for the past 2 weeks and algae had started to grow. However not to worry, all my 6 goldfish are in pink of health.

So when my major fish nut colleague told me he wanted to go to a fish shop during lunch today, I volunteered to accompany him. My motive was to buy a pair of suckerfish which we usually refer to as DBKL. As many people misunderstood, this type of fish does not eat shit.... just like DBKL doesn't clean your shit for you. Instead they eat algae and leftover fish food, thus helping to keep the tank clean....the suckerfish I mean!

There are a few type of suckerfish, the most commonly sold ones in KL are Plecostamus, Siamese Algae Eater and Otocinclus. Plecostamus can grow very big and they look horrendous. As for Siamese Algae Eater, I read that they are not very friendly with goldfish. So that left me with only 1 choice, the Otocinclus or fondly referred to as Oto (just because we do not know how to pronounce the rest of its name).

I got a pair of them for RM3.80 each to help me keep my tank clean.

When I got home and wanted to put them into my filthy tank, conscience (yes, I do have them) came over me. So I just put myself in action and clean the tank. Again, my tank is back to its splendour self. Aaaahhhhhh..... However I did not forget to leave some algae there for my 2 new friends.

Then I dropped these 2 suckers in and they seemed to adapt themselves pretty well. My goldfish have to learn though...that these are friends and not moving food. I did see one or two of my goldfish chasing after the 2 newcomers. I wouldn't worry much about it anyway as the Otos would not be able to fit into the goldfish's mouth.

I know, they are not pretty to look at... but they are functional. Not everything is about looks... or youth... or clear complexion... or fit body, okay?! Oopss...getting a bit carried away there.

Radio Prank

I received this file from a friend and got a good laugh out of it. It's a local radio station's prank on a catering lady.

I wonder whether this actually got on air...as you know, Malaysia is soooo conservative.

Warning: Some may find this offensive, so proceed at your own risk.

Life is uncertain

This morning I was awaken by a text message to my phone. Upon checking it, I was at daze and wasn't sure whether I was having a nightmare or what.

The text message informed me that a friend of mine is diagnosed with lung cancer.

After I gained my composure back, the first thing that came to my mind was "but she doesn't even smoke!!!". Then the other questions ensued... some of them were not even rational.

I wasn't sure what to do. Calling her and asking about it would probably mean that she needed to repeat the whole story again for god knows how many times. So I thought that wouldn't be the right thing to do. Later in the day, I sent her a text message and she replied saying that she will be strong in going through this.

Sigh....life is really so uncertain. When things happen, they just happen without any apparent reason. Anyone is susceptible to this. I need to remind myself to be happy and enjoy life; and not sweat the small stuff.

PhotoHunt: Any Photo

Well for this week's theme, we get to post any pictures that we want... and I would like to share with you pictures of a statue that enthralled me when I visited this Buddhist temple in Singapore recently.

This is the statue of the Goddess of Mercy. Looking at her gave me this sense of calmness and peace...

Economy Rice Lady

As work been extremely busy lately, my colleagues and I have been packing our lunches from the nearby stalls almost everyday. Gone were the days when we drive out and have long elaborate lunch... but I am praying hard that those days will come back again soon.

Anyway there is this economy rice stall near my office which I go for "ta pao" most of the times. One of the owners of this stall is a chirpy middle aged lady who is very friendly and likes to make conversations. Sometimes I would entertain her, sometimes I just smiled and proceeded to get my food.

I remember one time, there were a few of us picking our choice of vege and meat from the food trays and she kept referring to this man as "uncle".
"Uncle, you have enough rice?", "Uncle, this dish is very good one, you should try it", "Uncle, that will be RM3.50", etc...

After I packed my food, I said to my colleague "If she calls me an uncle like that, I will go kill myself!!".

So anyway, today was a different story.

We worked till late and only got to go down the stalls after 1pm. During that time, there were not so many people having lunch. I went to the same stall and as usual, chose what I wanted. During the same time, there's this tall guy came by and wanted to buy lunch too. This chirpy lady started to make jokes and kept referring to that guy as "leng zhai" which means handsome.
"Leng zhai, you so tall I can't see you", "Leng zhai, you should take more of this or that dish", "Leng zhai, you want to order drinks?".

This guy and me finished choosing our food almost at the same time. We both placed our lunch boxes in front of this lady so that she can tell us how much to pay. She looked at our food, then looked at the guy and said "Leng zhai, yours would be RM3.00". Then she looked at me and just said "...and you, RM3.50".

Hello! Not good looking people have feelings too, you know...

Well at least she didn't call me "uncle" la...

What a joke!

As I was lining up at KFC for my turn to order dinner just now, a couple came and queue behind me. I didn't mean to eavesdrop but their conversation was just too loud to ignore.

Girl: Hey, let me tell you a joke.
Boy: Is it going to be funny?
Girl: Yes...
Boy: Is it going to make me laugh?
Girl: Yes...
Boy: What if I don't laugh?
Girl: Mmm.....
Boy: If I don't laugh, you will have to pay me.
Girl: Pay you for what?!!
Boy: Pay me for wasting my time.
Girl: .... (bengang already)

Me: (In my thoughts) What an a**!!

High Tech Koi Pond

Want a koi pond but do not want to go through the hassles of feeding the fish and maintaining the pond?

Perhaps this would be an answer for you.

It's a projection on a flat surface. The fish do swim around and there's sound effect too! However it's not as simple as you think. It is not your usual video projection. See it for yourself.

Yes, it is highly interactive and the effect is very life like!! Not sure whether it's up for sale but you can always try contacting Singapore Science Center about it. ;-p

PhotoHunt: Time

Oh, I am late for this week's PhotoHunt. I must have lost track of time. Hehe... actually I was outstation and didn't get to participate until today.

For this week's theme, I found some pictures of this clock in my archives. I thought it looked rather cool. The "plane" would move every second and within a minute, it would have circled the whole "world". Such a suitable clock for Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA).

Close the case and move on!

Yesterday I managed to meet up an old friend in Singapore after not seeing her for a while. Although we do communicate via MSN now and then, nothing beats meeting up and talk face to face. We have been very close to each other since uni years and I am so glad that nothing has changed even after she has gotten married and became a mom. Sometimes looking back, I still think the best friends that we made are those whom we got to know during our schooling years. Perhaps people are more innocent, sincere and "real" then.

Anyway we shared about what's been going on with our lives, our frustrations (yes, complaints again!) and where we are heading in life. She's staying with her in-laws and as usual, there's always drama going on with that combination. The mother in law just loves to talk about things that have already passed. She would nag and nag about what should have been done and how it could have been done....but the thing is, all these no longer matter unless life has a Ctrl-Z to undo.

My friend said that the mother in law's greatest problem is that she can never "close the case and move on". This statement struck me like a lightning...well except that I wasn't on the ground trembling with smoke coming out from my head.

You see... recently I have been bothered by this specific bad decision that I made a few months back. I made this decision hastily based on some misinformation that I got during that time, and I have regretted it ever since. I kept wishing that I could turn back time, and looked at the situation more objectively before burning the bridge. I should have done this, I should have done that... those were all I could think of now.

Gosh, I am so hoping that the saying "Opportunity knocks but once" does not apply here. Anyhow whether it's going to or not, it's really out of my control. For now, I really need to just "close the case and move on!".

Tennis is only fun when...

I heard this from a Singaporean radio station:

"Tennis is only fun when the ball hits someone in the crotch"

I chuckled and agreed, then I thought to myself "as long as it's not my crotch!".
