My memories are not mine

I tell you.... this song has been very hot on the radio stations many many months ago and I had no idea what's the title and who sang it although I liked it very much. That's the problem with being a "banana" person.

Finally I found the title and the singers.

Title: 我的回憶不是我的 (My memories are not mine)
Singers: Hai Ming Wei & Vincy Chan

Power of the Dream

I have always loved this song. I think it's really inspirational. Gives me goosebumps each time I listen to it.

Power of the Dream - by Celine Dion:

Deep within each heart
There lies a magic spark
That lights the fire of our imagination
And since the dawn of man
The strength of just "I can"
Has brought together people of all nations

There’s nothing ordinary
In the living of each day
There’s a special part
Every one of us will play

Feel the flame forever burn
Teaching lessons we must learn
To bring us closer to the power of the dream
As the world gives us its best
To stand apart from all the rest
It is the power of the dream that brings us here

Your mind will take you far
The rest is just pure heart
You’ll find your fate is all your own creation
Every boy and girl
As they come into this world
They bring the gift of hope and inspiration

** Feel the flame forever burn
Teaching lessons we must learn
To bring us closer to the power of the dream
The world unites in hope and peace
We pray that it will always be
It is the power of the dream that brings us here

There’s so much strength in all of us
Every woman, child and man
It’s the moment that you think you can’t
You’ll discover that you can

** (2x)

The power of the dream
The faith in things unseen
The courage to embrace your fear
No matter where you are
To reach for your own star
To realize the power of the dream
To realize the power of the dream

Through The Years

A beautiful song ...

Lyrics:
I can't remember when you weren't there
When I didn't care for anyone but you
I swear we've been through everything there is
Can't imagine anything we've missed
Can't imagine anything the two of us can't do

Through the years, you've never let me down
You turned my life around, the sweetest days I've found
I've found with you ... Through the years
I've never been afraid, I've loved the life we've made
And I'm so glad I've stayed, right here with you
Through the years

I can't remember what I used to do
Who I trusted, who I listened to before
I swear you taught me everything I know
Can't imagine needing someone so
But through the years it seems to me
I need you more and more

Through the years, through all the good and bad
I know how much we had, I've always been so glad
To be with you ... Through the years
It's better every day, you've kissed my tears away
As long as it's okay, I'll stay with you
Through the years

Through the years, when everything went wrong
Together we were strong, I know that I belong
Right here with you ... Through the years
I never had a doubt, we'd always work things out
I've learned what life's about, by loving you
Through the years

Through the years, you've never let me down
You've turned my life around, the sweetest days I've found
I've found with you ... Through the years
It's better every day, you've kissed my tears away
As long as it's okay, I'll stay with you
Through the years...

Perhaps Love

I love this song. We used to perform this (complete with hand gestures) when I was with this Buddhist singing group many many years ago. Listening to it brings back a lot of wonderful memories.

So what's love to you?

Disturbia

I haven't been listening to many english songs nowadays. Most of the time when I am driving, the radio station that I got on was MyFM which is a chinese station. So I am not very "IN" with the latest english songs.

However there is one that I heard before and liked it very much. It's by Rihanna and the song is titled "Disturbia". Very catchy and I like the "Bum Bum Bi Dum Bum Bum Bi Dum Bum" part of the song.

Anyone of you know what "Disturbia" means? I searched through the online dictonaries but couldn't find this word. Could it mean "a state of being disturbed"??

Well if this is the meaning, then I had a "Disturbia" when I went to Karaoke with my sisters, nephew and nieces last Friday.

Why?

Because my nephew and niece were actually singing to this song! Gone were those days when they were still singing "Baa Baa Black Sheep". Sigh... I am officially old and had to embrace my "uncle" title. Disturbing right?

Memori Tercipta

If you are a fan of 8tv (like me), you would most probably have seen this short clip before. It was shown on this TV station a while ago and I thought it was a really good song plus an interesting video.

The song's title is "Memori Tercipta" and the original singer is Shila, the recent runner up of the "One in A Million" singing competition. I think her vocals are damn good. Watch the video below for her full rendition of this song.

"Memori Tercipta" lyrics

Bergetar jiwa dipersada bercahaya
Pertemuan harapan pertama kalinya
Bergetar jiwa menghadapi mimpi-mimpi
Sukar dipercaya pintunya terbuka

Di sini jua memori tercipta
Walau seketika terjalin kasih kita
Mungkin di sini kita kan terpisah
Kenangan bersama tiada ku lupa

Mengalun suara sesuri bisikan hati
Seiringan mencari haluan berseni
Bergetar jiwa menghadapi mimpi-mimpi
Tiada pun terduga pintunya terbuka

Di sini jua memori tercipta
Walau seketika terjalin kasih kita
Mungkin di sini kita kan terpisah
Kenangan bersama tiada ku lupa

Yang terpahit jua termanis
Semuanya bagiku terindah
Ku ingati buat selama-lamanya

Di sini jua memori tercipta
Walau seketika terjalin kasih kita
Mungkin di sini kita kan terpisah
Kenangan bersama tiada ku lupa

Mungkin disini kita kan terpisah
Kenangan bersama (3x)
Mungkin disini kita kan terpisah
Kenangan bersama tiada ku lupa

Painted Skin

I went to KLCC's TGV for a movie last night. It felt like a decade since I last stepped my foot on KLCC's ground mainly because I have this perception that KLCC is too far away from where I am staying and working; and that I would have to brave through the horrendous traffic jams to get there. Well.. I was not the one driving there last night and with 80% (probably) of KL folks already back to their 'kampung's for Raya, it was okay.

We went there to watch "Painted Skin". Apparently KLCC is the only cineplex that is showing the Mandarin version. As most of the cast members are Mandarin speaking, we thought Mandarin version would be more "authentic". We later found out that it really didn't matter whether it's Mandarin or Cantonese version.

I think 10 minutes through the show, I was already yawning away. There were just too much of dialogues, scenes were transitioned from one to another almost abruptly and the effects looked fake!

What made it worse was that there were these 2 idiots at the back of us doing commentaries to each other throughout the movie. All the shhh's in the world didn't seem to shut them up. Besides that, at least 8 people's phones rang throughout the show. Instead of turning their phones off, they answered the call and chatted away! I thought KLCC patrons would be better educated in human decency than that. I was so wrong!

Anyway, "Painted Skin" is a film adapted from one of the stories in an ancient novel written by Pu SongLing. This novel is a collection of supernatural tales about spirits, ghosts, scholars, exorcists, etc. "Painted Skin" is the story about the vixen spirit (Wu Li Jing).

The beautiful Zhou Xun (from "Love Perhaps" and "The Banquet") played this character. I thought she did pretty well in bringing out the pretend-innocent, cunning and evil side of the vixen spirit.

Another good acting came from Zhao Wei who played the wife of the man the vixen spirit was trying to seduce. She played the character so vulnerable and I was amazed how easily tears can just flow down from her eyes.

As on why the title "Painted Skin", I have this question myself. Perhaps it's from this part of the movie where the vixen spirit took off her human skin and started to paint on the skin.

Well in short... other than the strong acting from these 2 lead actresses, I found there is really nothing left to be desired from this movie. I wished I could have my refund...

Alive

It's 1.00am now and I really should be sleeping. However I got so engrossed with this Chinese-Mongolian singer/songwriter whose album I have just purchased a few hours ago. The artist is Sa Ding Ding and the album is "Alive".

I understand that this album was released late last year in other parts of the world, but I only saw it hitting our music stores recently. I was enthralled by the album cover with this lady in a meditative position looking all calm and serene... well... and pretty too.

After listening to a preview (or rather pre-"listen") of a few tracks, I was tempted to buy it. However I held on until I saw it again today (oops...I mean yesterday) at Popular bookstore. I did not regret my purchase cos as I was listening to it on my way home, I just felt calm and peaceful. It's really hard for me to explain why I feel the calmness although some people may find it noisy with all those instruments and music arrangement.

Perhaps it's her voice... perhaps it's because she was singing in Sanskrit (She also sings in Tibetan, Chinese and her own made up language in the album).. I really don't know.

Just listen to her title song "Alive" and see whether you feel the same way:

To know more about her, head over to her very cool site.

Crescent Moon Bay (月牙湾)

I heard this song on the radio recently and got haunted by it since. I did some searching and found out that this song "Crescent Moon Bay" was the first single released from F.I.R's 2007 album.

It was inspired by the Crescent Moon Spring located in Dunhuang of northwestern China's Gansu province. This song was used to promote public awareness on how the ecological environment is being challenged due to over-exploitation of its groundwater.

Pinyin lyrics for 月牙湾 - FIR

当晚天空的沙砾
dan huang tian kong de sha li
带着我们的记忆
dai zhe wo men de ji yu
我从半路看回去
wo cong ban lu kan hui qu
这秦关漫漫好弯曲
zhe qin guan man man hao wan ju

*
梦想穿过了西域
meng xiang chuan guo le xi yu
包含了多少的蝉意
bao han le duo shao de can yi
爱情像一本游记
ai qing xiang yi ben you ji
我会找寻它的谜语
wo hui zhao xun ta de mi yu

看月牙湾下的泪光
kan yue ya wan xia de lei guang
在丝路之上被遗忘
zai si lu zhi shang bei yi wang

是谁的心哪 孤单地留下
shi shui de xin a gu dan de liu xia
他还好吗我多想爱他
ta hai hao ma wo duo xiang ai ta
那永恒的泪凝固那一句话
na yong heng de lei ning gu de yi ju hua
也许可能蒸发
ye xu ke neng zheng fa

是谁的爱啊比泪水坚强
shi shui de ai a yu wei shui jiang xia
轻声呼唤就让我融化
qing sheng hu huan jiu rang wo rong hua
每一滴雨水演化成我翅膀
na yi di yu shui yan hua cheng wo chi bang
向着我爱的人追吧
xiang zhe wo ai de ren zhui ba

yahk roo tae mai yahk taam

To celebrate my coming Thailand trip OR to cry over my cancelled Thailand trip (depending on whether situation there got worse), here is a very very very nice Thai song titled "yahk roo tae mai yahk taam".

No idea what it means... but that doesn't matter as music is universal, right?

Matchstick Heaven (火柴天堂)

This is a very old song which I really love. It's composed and originally sung by Panda Hsiung (熊天平). I wonder whether he is still singing now...

If I am not mistaken, this song was inspired by the story "The Little Match Girl". I may be wrong but the meaning of the song seems to suggest that.

pinyin lyrics
火柴天堂- 熊天平
huo chai tian tang- hsiung tian ping

走在寒冷下雪的夜空
zou zai han leng xia xue de ye kong
卖着火柴温饱我的梦

人情寒冷冰冻我的手

一包火柴燃烧我的心

Star Wars - The What Wars??

Star Wars "The Clone Wars" seem to be an interesting movie, even so if you are a Star Wars' fan. Although I am not really one, but CGI movies usually capture my interests.

When I turned on my TV this morning, 8TV was showing the making of this movie. It definitely looked very interesting. After the commercial, they resumed the show and that was when I saw something on the screen that got me scratching my head a little and laughed aloud.

Do you see what I saw? No? .... let me help.

Hmm..."The Colone Colon Wars" .... now I am really considering whether I should be watching THAT movie!

Mouse Loves Rice

I was going through my phone and discovered this video I took of my niece 3 years ago. I must have copied it over from my old phone. She was 2 years old then. In it, she gave a very short rendition of the song "老鼠爱大米" which direct translated means "Mouse Loves Rice".

This song was HUGE in the chinese music scene during that time, with many versions sung by many different artistes. Actually I don't know who the original singer is, but if I am not mistaken it's a guy, right? Anyhow, I preferred a female voice for this song.

Abe Sapien: Behind the Mask

I watched Hellboy 2: The Golden Army last weekend. Although I was not overwhelmed by the movie, I thought it was quite an entertaining one with its special effects and myriad of creatures.

One of the characters that I found rather interesting was Abe Sapien. I have watched the first Hellboy movie but this character was not emphasised so much there. After the movie, I wondered... who was the actor behind the mask, behind all those makeup. FYI, I did not watch the making of this movie, so it got me really curious.

I came home and started to google the character and its actor. What I found out about the actor really impressed me. Do you know that this actor played 3 characters in that movie? Abe Sapien, Angel of Death and the Chamberlain.

I thought all the 3 characters were done very nicely. The Angel of Death character was scary and at the same time mesmerising. Perhaps its the whole mysterious, androgynous and having the wing thing.

As for the Chamberlain, although the scene was very short but the character seemed to remind me of someone I know... However I still couldn't figure out who, hehe.

The actor of all these 3 characters was Doug Jones. He has acted in many many movies before, but big chance you wouldn't be able to recognize him. Reason being his characters were always under heavy prosthetic makeup. He played multiple characters in Pan's Labyrinth and he was the Silver Surfer in Fantastic Four.

I was very shocked to learn about the Silver Surfer thing as this guy definitely does not have the looks and the body of the Silver Surfer. Well..I guess nothing that special effect and makeup can't do eh?

"Friends"

"Friends" is one of my favourite TV series of all time. Astro has been having re-runs of the show and I have been catching some episodes here and there when I managed to get my butt to the gym.

Anyway, I finally decided to get the complete Season 9 of it and have just finished watching it today. It is indeed a very very good show and I miss it very much. Think I will continue to go get the final season (i.e. Season 10) too.

Found this clip on one of the funnier scenes from "Friends". Not sure which season this is from though...
